7 don’ts – never late to know
How I wish that I learned these at kindergarten. I was/am enslaved to many of these habits blissfully unaware that these habits were causing long term damage to my body. In fact I fall prey to some of these habits even today
. The good news is that now I am aware! & will eventually come out of these self damaging rituals. May be, “Top to Toe Don’ts” is a more apt title for this article.
Here are 7 Don’ts (Top to Toe)
Tips for a successful supervisor # 2
September 29th, 2009 in Business, Today
“Paradigm shift, 360 degree restructuring, client empowerment, MBO, six sigma” These words have ambushed themselves into the management terminology. In the clamor to be a change embracing organization, many managements have forgotten that Management is simply the efficient use of men, money & machines.
It’s no wonder that today; supervisors have less & less interpersonal skills. My friend, Prewit did a wonderful job in listing the attributes for a good supervisor in the article Tips for a successful supervisor. That article clearly stated that interpersonal skills supplement other skills like problem solving & communication skills. I have always believed that an effective supervisor is one who can get the best out of his/her team. Let’s looks at five tips that will motivate people to work under you.

Tips for relief from kidney stone
It is very difficult to describe the pain that one experiences due to kidney stone(Urolithiasis). To me it was worse than thousand knives pricking my lower abdomen. To make matters worse, I also suffered from lower back pain & burning sensation in the urinary tract. The embarrassment of having to visit the toilet every 5 minutes did not help matters either
.
Thankfully the worst days of suffering from kidney stone are over for me. It is usually men in their middle ages who suffer from kidney stones. These stones are formed due to accumulation of minerals & salts. The reason could be hereditary, lifestyle or irregularities in metabolism. I have also seen many younger boys suffering from this pain too.
Surgery to remove kidney stone should be the last resort. Stones made up of calcium oxalate up to the size of 6 mm can easily be removed by home remedies.
Here are few tips to remove kidney stones from our body naturally:

How to reduce back pain
For the last two years, I have been getting these mysterious bouts of back pain which disappear magically after tormenting for a week
. After many trips to the doctor, the mystery was solved. The pain I was suffering was because of the kidney stone (Urolithiasis) present in my body. The diagnosis was compounded by the fact that back pain can be due a variety of reasons like stress, muscle pull, poor posture, insufficient nutrition etc. During my tryst with back pain my only solace was the knowledge that “I was not alone in this agony”, in fact back pain is the single biggest contributor to lost man-hours at workplaces.
In this article I am going to discuss some tips for relief from back ache & prevention steps too. I have personally benefitted from these tips & hope that they provide relief to you too. However, I urge you to visit a doctor if the pain persists for more than 5 days.
Tips for relief from back pain:
Start sleeping on hard floor: In my case, there was a distinct difference in pain levels when I slept on a hard floor. I have no hesitation in recommending this to everyone with back pain. In case of severe pain try this posture for 30 minutes- Lie flat on the ground with a support (pillow or rolled towel) under your neck, rest your legs on a chair( about 18” high). Just relax in this position for 20-30 minutes. This works as a great pain reliever, especially for lower back ache.

, without the help of “stay young for ever” beauty parlour therapy. Many hide behind the comfort of their excuses like ‘oh, there is no time”. Well, Ms/ Mrs. / Madam, how do you get time to sink on that couch of a parlour for hours? Ooops! One should not argue with women! Okay, let’s learn how to tackle few minor beauty problems, at HOME.

Body Building ( Part #2)

Body building and Nutrition
As a body builder, if you have a proper nutritional diet, you have won half the battle to success. I had mentioned in my previous article that success of body building is in understanding the importance of right food, right time and right quantity. In body building, daily diet plan is not an occasion for feasting, but a way through which body meets its daily energy requirement and growth needs.
Many beginners gets confused in an attempt to achieve the goal and start looking out for that “magic diet” which will make them cover model in 5-10 weeks. My dear friend, stop jumping like monkey on the tree, from one plan to another and instead stick to “a plan” long enough to see the result. Do not get carried away by the advertisements. Just commit yourself to success and stick to a plan till you achieve the goal.
It might be very tempting for the new body builder to start that hard core bodybuilding diet as shown in magazines and television advertisements! However, I suggest you to stick to simple healthy diet plan, consisting of carbohydrates, fat and protein in a ratio 40:20:40. The best way to ensure the energy from the food is effectively used, have multiple equal sized meals throughout the day with a gap of 2 ½ to 3 hrs between each meal and drink at least 3-4 liters of water to keep you hydrated.
Let’s take a look at the importance of each category of food in body building.

Home Remedies
[Gallery not found]The transition period from summer to monsoon is a proliferation time for the bacteria & viruses that cause’s common illness like cold and flu. Nature has taken its toll and caught me unguarded. As I stood with my dripping nose
, preparing black coffee with ginger and crushed black pepper, mind raced back to my childhood days. My Grandmother used to prepare some concoctions, we call it kashaayam”, from simple ingredients available from the kitchen shelf itself. It was simple, tasty and very effective too. In fact, she had home remedy for almost all the every day ailment.
My family still prefers natural home remedies over modern medicines, at least, for common ailments, as it is cost effective with no side effects (if taken under guidance) and most of all for the satisfaction of self curing.

Detoxify Naturally – Healthy Living Tip # 5

Tips to detoxify naturally
A colleague of mine was recently enquiring about a 10 day detoxifying clinic. Her argument was that complete detoxification is not possible in our normal day to day routine.
I beg to differ on this. We have been fooled into thinking that we need help from colon cleansers, fasting or detox clinics to detoxify our body. Detoxifying is indeed an important function of our body & even without our knowledge many of our organs are working 24X7 to eliminate toxins.
Some parts of our body that play an active role in detoxification are:
- Skin
- Nose
- Lungs
- Liver
- Lymph Nodes
- Kidney & many more
One must also understand that toxin are only external (Exogenous Toxins) but also Toxins that are created within our body (Endogenous Toxins).

Easy Weight Loss tips :
Can weight loss be easy? Almost every weight loss article will ask you to be physically active in one way or the other. Not this one! This is no sweat. Just easy life style changes. In fact you would love to do them.
Modern research has thrown a lot of light on how our body gains weight & this has cleared most of the age old misgivings about weight loss.
Tip 1: Sleep well! (don’t you just love this blog?)
Our body burns fat through the act of metabolism, research has shown that proper sleep helps in increasing the metabolic activity of our body. Also when we suffer from lack of sleep our body releases cortisol hormone which increases our appetite. Thus lack of sleep will give a double blow to your weight loss plans.
Just how much of sleep is necessary? Studies has proven that adults would ideally require 7 1/4 hours of sleep everyday.Read this research from the Loughborough Sleep Research Center for more details.
Tip 2: Drink lots of water
Most of the metabolic activity is performed by the liver and the kidney. Plenty of water would keep pushing these organs to work towards the burning fat to energy. It is recommended that we drink half our body weight in ounces of water everyday . A hundred pound man should at least drink 50 ounces of water everyday ( approximately 30 ml per kilogram of body weight).
Tip 3: Alkalize your body:
Ha ha…. I am sure this didn’t make sense to any one! Most of the food we eat is acidic in nature. Our body has an inbuilt mechanism to balance the PH within it. To neutralize the acid, body stores acids inside the fat cells making us gain weight further. Fresh fruits & vegetables, are good source of alkaline food. Fruits are not only the best known source of alkaline food but also provide us with the purest form of water.
Read Dr.Robert Young’s press release on PH miracle here.
These tips cannot be that hard to implement. Are they? Here are few more wacky tips for my ardent blog followers:-
- Drinking water 2 hours before a workout will phenomenally increase the effectiveness of your workout.
- Sleeping straight instead of sleeping sideways will reduce the wrinkles on the face.
- A power nap of 25-30 minutes in the afternoon is good for the brain
Please feel free to send any home , beauty or health tips that you would like to be published here. Ah! I have added a poll on the left side of this blog. Don’t forget to cast your vote.
