Exercises for a Healthy Brain
June 20th, 2009 in Health, Today
It is often said that the ability of the brain reduces with age. However, modern research has proved that just like any other part of our body, brain could be maintained in a great shape with regular exercise.
Our brain has the ability to develop new neurons at any age. There are many ways to exercise the different parts of our brain. In this article, we are looking at physical exercises that can be done in the morning to maintain an active & healthy brain. Continuing to have a healthy brain is essential part of aging gracefully.
Exercise I : Wriggle the toes.
We all love to snooze for a while, after the alarm. This time could be used for stretching & wriggling the toes. There is no set pattern to do this exercise.
You may move any part of the toe as and how you like. This simple two minute stretching will have you active and fresh for the whole day.
Exercise II : Brush with your wrong hand.
Our brain forms new neurons whenever it identifies a different pattern. Brushing with your left hand (right hand for left handers) will not only stimulate the other half of the brain but also send signals of a new pattern which will help in activating the brain further. It was fun the first time I tried it.
Exercise III : Take a morning walk
A walk would serve the purpose of a mild exercise and also send more oxygen to the brain. This will help the brain to think clearly and also be healthy. A walk has always helped me to focus better & take correct decisions.
These exercises can be done at any time of the day. However they are more beneficial when practiced in the morning. This probably means getting up few minutes earlier each day. Hmmm…… Sleep! May be I will blog on benefits of Sleep sometime…
