Why does one wear perfume?

In simple words, we wear perfume to smell good and to attract opposite sex. 

With so many fragrances available these days, one can truly reflect their individuality by the choice of perfumes. Fragrance triggers our mood. We can change the way we smell to match our mood or occasion etc. These days perfumes that we wear, strongly represents our personality. Every time when I get the smell of Fahrenheit- by Christian Dior, unconsciously I would look around for my Ex-boss! That was his favorite choice. Well, that reminds me of something else too. Fragrance has direct link with our memory. Not necessarily it has to be perfume; for example you are walking past a restaurant, and you get the smell of your favorite food that your mother used to cook, suddenly you will drift away, down the memory lane, thinking of those good old days…!!! So, fragrance plays a very vital role in invoking certain memories. Okay, let me share some secret with you; I still do wear (some times- depends on my mood) Acqua di Gio by Giorgio Armani, because that connects me with some good, positive memories of the time spend with my ex-girl friend (Shhhhh… secret! Don’t tell any one)!

Today, fragrance can be found all around from scented soaps to candles to any body products. Even scented garbage bags are available in the market. Fragrances come in different names and forms according to the strength of the fragrance used, the solvent used etc.

Eau de perfume’ is a mixture of essential oils, aroma compounds, solvents and fixatives.

Eau de toilette is a lighter version of perfume and has comparatively more amount of alcohol than perfume.

Eau de cologne (water of cologne) is a type of light perfume that was originated in Cologne, Germany. Cologne has about 2-5% essential oils

Deodorants are usually applied on the body, mostly in armpits to reduce body odor due to perspiration.

Tips to wear perfume

Apply perfume on the skin preferably after the shower as the skin is clean and fresh and can absorb fragrance more thoroughly.

Perfume should be applied in the areas where the blood is closer to the surface and skin is warm to diffuse the scent more rapidly. These areas are wrist, neck line, behind earlobe, elbow, chest, behind knees etc. Expert says, apply scent where you would like to be kissed!

Allow the perfume to dry before you put on the dress. Otherwise the precious drops of perfumes rubbed off by the dress and do not get absorbed by the body.

Scent tends to last longer in summer than winter. So keep in mind the weather condition when you wear perfumes.

It’s of no use applying scent on your clothes and not on the body. The body will perspire and the combination of scent with perspiration smells very bad.
