Hello Friends, I am back again with tips on practical fashion. Most of you must be thinking that what ever I have written here is nothing but plain “common sense”! Yes, but common sense is not very common, is it? ;-)

I am not asking to go complete fashion –mania; but to consider practical fashion as part of our overall personality. Fashion awareness is not only helpful while choosing clothes, but also helps to invest better without hurting the wallet much hmm…. “Fashion on a shoestring budget” can be the next article here.

Well, becoming slim is fashion now. There is a general perception that any dress would suite a slim person. But the fact is, finding clothes that match the body structure is a challenge for both slim & well built individuals. What if you are skinny like Indian bowler Ishant Sharma or Victoria Beckham and only as tall as Sachin Tendulkar or Urmila Matondkar? Does this combination depress you?  Relax; today I will focus on fashion tips for skinny people that will make them look sleek and smart.

Clear off slim fitting dresses from your ward robe

My dear friends, chuck away all those slim fitting dresses, shirts, T’s from your wardrobe. You don’t want people to count your ribs! Instead, get medium fitting dresses, shirts made of cotton or cotton mixed material. Stay away from elastic and clingy materials. At the same time, do not go for too loose fitting dresses that will look as if you are swimming in that dress. Girls can also layer your dresses to create “curves”. Use belts and jackets that tapper to accentuate your waist and bust lines.

Suits/Jacket with small shoulder padding

Go for suits with smaller shoulder pads to make your torso look muscular. Suits with massive shoulder pads will make you look like a boy lost in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s’ suit. The best pattern will be classical single or two button well fitting suit. The deep V cut will elongate your appearance. Never go for double breasted suites which will make you look like ‘‘BAT OUT OF HELL”.

Wear Extra Skinny Tie

Extra skinny neck tie is in fashion now. This gives the upper body a visual boost and makes one look bigger than what they are. These ties are unisex and even girls can follow the same. While dressing casually, skinny people (both sex) can enhance their upper torso by wearing turtle neck or polo neck but made of heavier wool or bulkier materials with high thread counts.

Wear high waist or medium waist trousers

Never wear low raise bottoms which will make your lower body look weak. Statistics says 75% of short person’s upper body length is almost equal to normal size person’s upper body but the difference is in the length of their leg. For example my mom is from Far East and I have got the same short legs whilst my upper body length is equal to any normal tall person. So, the idea is to wear high waist trousers with medium fit and to give visual appearance of longer leg. Skinny persons shouldn’t wear vertical stripped trousers. Though flat front trousers are in fashion now, skinny people can also wear one with pleats

Choose the right color/pattern

Wear light color dresses and preferably same color to match upper and lower cloth.  This gives the visual illusion of bigger look. Skinny ladies with heavy butt could wear pencil skirt to create to great curves. If you are skinny girl with heavy bust line, try wearing V neck over high neck or polo to create layers and also to get defined look. Never wear just the deep V neck which will make you look even bigger unless, you want to grab wide ATTENTION.

Right Shoes

Shoes play a very important role in your fashion. Though for formals oxford pattern is still the classic, Italian pattern, semi-pointed shoes with 2-2.5 inch heals (not more) will suite better than the classical oxford.  Leather shoes, with leather sole and without any ornaments or embellishments is the way to go.

Fashion may keep changing over the period but not our body nature. By creating awareness about oneself and practical fashion, you can improve your personality.

Friendly tip of the day:

Of all the things you wear, your expression is the most important. If someone remembers your suit and not your smile, then….you didn’t smile enough. :-D :-D
